While you’re stewing over Scalpergate, here’s some good news for MOTUC fans that was revealed last night. (Pics mostly from He-Man.org poster evenflow).

  • Battle Cat looks great, is well articulated, will be out on February 16th, and will cost just $30. $30! Seriously! Look!
  • In that previous link with the price, you’ll also see what appear to be MOTU vinyls called Attitubes (a la Mighty Muggs).
  • There will also be some seriously awesome display stands designed to look like part of Castle Grayskull, also available February 16.
  • Looks like Teela will come with Zoar.
  • Speaking of Teela, there are two heads: skullcap (for wearing the snake helmet) and short hair.

I need to preface this with the warning that this is all hearsay, even with the photographic evidence. I know some will be tempted to believe it immediately based on their own cynicism about/pathological hatred of Mattel, but before you go down that path, just try to keep in mind that all we have right now is the word of some anonymous people on the Internet.

Now then. As you know, there are a mere 1,000 MOTU art books available at SDCC. The limit on them is supposed to be two per customer. Also, vendors, exhibitors, and professionals were not to be allowed to buy any of Mattel’s SDCC items during Preview Night last night.

But there have been reports of vendors not only buying books, but buying twenty of them–and then announcing it to those waiting in line. (more…)

As a small child I watched three movies on a constant loop: Transformers: The Movie, Flash Gordon, & Big Trouble in Little China. They were my trifecta of ’80s cinematic awesomeness. While my friends wanted to be Indiana Jones, all I wanted in my young life was to be a truck driver that fought ancient Chinese sorcerers on his weekends off. I was just about the only kid in first grade rattling off Jack Burton-isms, much to the chagrin of my teachers. To this day it remains among my favorite films, and I throw it in the DVD player at least once a week.

Flash-forward to the fall of 2002, when I walked into my local Suncoast Video and imagine my surprise when I see Jack Burton staring back at me from the action figure section. Purchasing without hesitation, I rushed home to spool up my 56k modem to find out more about this line of action figures from the greatest John Carpenter film ever. (more…)

Odds ‘n’ Ends > Pre-SDCC Edition

  • The Fwoosh has a first look review of Egon. The glasses don’t look as bad as they did in the packaging shots. Looks like he is indeed in the same scale as Movie Masters, so you can have Egon duke it out with the Joker. I will say that while the new Slimer is nice, I’m glad I have the NECA one.
  • Early images of the Hasbro SDCC booth, including some Marvel Universe figures. (Apparently you have to register to see the bigger pics.)
  • Too soon? But I kid the toy industry. Frankly, it’s MJ’s own fault for making such a famous zombie video. And I think he’d be amused by the whole thing, honestly.
  • Dr. Mrs. Ghostal and I watched the pilot and first two eps of Warehouse 13 last night. It’s not as quirky as Eureka and the two main characters aren’t (yet) as appealing as Scully and Mulder, but I like Saul Rubinek’s nutty professor, and the “haunted objects” are an interesting hook–sort of like a reverse Reaper. They need to drop the whole Secret Service angle, though–it’s just too hard to explain what the hell they’re doing at crime scenes. In any event, I’m willing to give it a try–so many of my favorite shows (like X-Files and Star Trek: The Next Generation) started with fairly weak first seasons, particularly when viewed in retrospect.

Minimates Playset = Awesome

I’ve managed not to get into the whole Minimate thing thus far–I’m nearly broke paying for what I already collect–but Rustin Parr was pushing them hard when I met with him this past weekend (it was quite fun time, also attended by Poesters PrkftTear, Ed, and the soon-to-be-famous-author Red Kryptonite). I’ve even received emails from readers (well, one email from one reader) asking for more Minimate coverage here on the site. Anyway, when I came across this news, I had to post it. (more…)

Just received the oddest press release I think I’ve ever gotten…this seems downright dangerous to me.

Hasbro’s Marvel brand team is very excited to let you in on some breaking news regarding its Marvel Legends line: The long-anticipated Marvel Legends Nemesis wave is finally hitting the U.S.!
