Just received the oddest press release I think I’ve ever gotten…this seems downright dangerous to me.
Hasbro’s Marvel brand team is very excited to let you in on some breaking news regarding its Marvel Legends line: The long-anticipated Marvel Legends Nemesis wave is finally hitting the U.S.!
We have learned that eight (8) San Diego area Wal-Mart stores will be stocking the Marvel Legends Nemesis wave, beginning this Wednesday, July 22 – in limited quantities, so act fast! The lineup for this wave, in case you’ve forgotten, is as follows: Punisher, Daredevil, Black Bolt, Nova, Beast and Tigra. There are also two variants in the wave – Punisher in camouflage and Yellow Daredevil. That’s a total of 8 new figures! Buy six (6) figures to complete a new Build-A-Figure: Nemesis!
The Marvel Legends Nemesis wave will be stocked at the following San Diego area Wal-Mart stores (while supplies last!):
- 1360 EASTLAKE PARKWAY, CHULA VISTA, CA
- 1150 BROADWAY, CHULA VISTA, CA
- 75 N BROADWAY, CHULA VISTA, CA
- 1200 HIGHLAND AVENUE, NATIONAL CITY, CA
- 710 DENNERY ROAD, SAN DIEGO, CA
- 3382 MURPHY CANYON ROAD, SAN DIEGO, CA
- 3412 COLLEGE AVENUE, SAN DIEGO, CA
- 4840 SHAWLINE STREET, SAN DIEGO, CA
I can’t help but feel a little pity for those hapless Wal-Mart employees who haven’t the slightest idea what is about to descend upon them down there in San Diego…

Could make a decent plot for a spoof disaster movie…
Dead Man Walking
This is an official Hasbro press release? Is this there way of telling us we're SOL if we don't live in SO Cal?
Nikolos Sardos
How can they be excited to tell us that? They should be ashamed.
Poe
I think the gist of the message is that this is mostly an SDCC-related press release, for people who are going, and that the Nemesis figures will be distributed to the rest of the country over the next couple of months. The ships from China do typically dock in SoCal.

dude… the employees there will need to stock up in the sporting goods aisle… cup, shin guards, chest protector, eblow and knee pads… that will not be pretty. what an overall shitty thing to do, when there are literally thousands of EXTRA geeks walking the streets of san diego. that's like staging a soccer tournament at a heineken brewery.
Dead Man Walking
@ dayraven: you're forgetting the poor physical conditioning of the average geek. Figure atrophied muscles, extra cheeto and mountian dew weight, and repetitive stress disorder from late night WoW battles. I don't think the Walmart people have anything to worry about. You could probably avoid a geek attack easier than a Romero zombie.
Tom-Tom
Well, they made it past customs.
Now I kinda regret becoming a mod at the MarvelousNews forums.

Could this be Hasbro's way of convincing Wal-Mart to place a larger order for the series? Release the figures first at SDCC — in limited numbers — and then watch as Wal-Mart ups the orders based on the sudden sell-out in the test stores.

im glad i dont collect ML anymore. i do like the holocaust/nemesis whatever the hell you want to call him BAF though.
finkrod
The thing I'm most surprised at is that people are still buying Marvel Legends. Those things are terrible.
PrfktTear
I can just see the scene now… an angry mob of geeks charge the store, and as they enter the foyer, the doors open up and a gust of wind blows them all over…
Michael Lovrine
Wow, and now Hasbro can do no wrong right? Seriously, now you know how us Transformers fans feel from being forced fed repaints of old junk from the past 7 years in between lines.
Griffin
I just want a Black Bolt, it's been like two years since they announced this wave!(Weeps softly)
clark
Well…it certainly is a new technique to let customers know where to go. I guess if you live in San Diego you don't need to spend $30 on gas while trying to track them down. I just want the Red Daredevil from this wave, I don't care about Nemesis.

Right in my back yard. Whoohoo! Oh wait, I forgot those toys were god awful…

While most of the Hasbro MLs suck balls, the females and the BAFs have been consistently solid. And this series looked to be more of higher value with mostly decent looking 6"ers and a solid BAF offering, on par with the RedHulk series. As opposed to the FinFangFoom wave which had mostly horrendous 6"ers (mostly due to the skin flap effect caused by Hasbro using balljoints where the wrist meets the lower arm- horrendous and into the kids sandbox they went) but a kickin' BAF. For a guy like me with loads of MLs, I sure want a BlackBolt. And the Daredevil looks better then the peanut arms one we got from Toybiz. And Tigra looks pretty decent. And the Nemesis/Holocaust figure looks sinister and great. I loves me some translucent plastic.

Anyone who pretends the sentiment is that Hasbro can do no wrong needs to get out from under that rock and take their hands out of their ears.
Poe
So, how big is Chula Vista that it needs three Wal-Marts?
jestergoblin
Hahahahaha, this is the biggest dick move I've seen Hasbro do in a while.
Rabid fans and dealers both know where to get them now. It's going to be a madhouse.
Please get photos of this.

Well, now I know where my scalper will be from…
I've since resigned myself to maybe seeing the Nemesis wave when and if I see it. It's be nice, but if not; life tends to go on.

Um… Who said Hasbro can do no wrong? They seem to get their fair share of criticism and outrage from the collector/fanboy community.
I usually feel like I'm in a tiny minority that thinks Hasbro's handling of ML (and Marvel properties in general) has been pretty good overall. But even I agree that they can't seem to get human skin tones right and their articulation is often lacking (and occasionally downright odd).
Where I often compare them favorably to, for instance, Mattel, is in their distribution. Unlike Mattel, I usually have no trouble finding Hasbro figures. It might take a while, but they almost always show up. I have a list of wanted figures from Mattel (going back to the Batman 6" line, The Batman animated line, and DCSH on up through DCUC) that I have either never seen at retail, or glimpsed once but stupidly waited on; while the only HML stuff that has been hard to find have been exclusive waves and two-packs.
The Wal-Mart exclusives, like this Nemesis wave, have been particularly troublesome.
Hopefully this strange SDCC release of the long-delayed wave means a wider release will soon follow.
NoisyDvL5
@Poe. I live in SWMO and we have three for our 50k. Course there's so many here, I have 7 within about 20 minutes of my house.
And before anyone gets jealous… Not a one carries DCUC!!
Motorthing
WTF? If it wasn't for the Character names I would swear this was a Mattel press release – this sounds like their kind of dick-waddery.
It would seem to pay living within striking distance of SDCC these days. Shame I'm about 6,000 miles away from that locale.

When I was working at a camping store, cute valley-girls would come in to buy junk all the time. Of course, it's expensive junk because we know people who are into backpacking and camping are silly and will spend $20 on a titanium spork. So every so often, I'd trade on of them a $20 discount for a kiss.
So, those Wal-Mart employees can be like demi-gods for the day if they play their cards right.
