Odds ‘n’ Ends > Pre-SDCC Edition

  • The Fwoosh has a first look review of Egon. The glasses don’t look as bad as they did in the packaging shots. Looks like he is indeed in the same scale as Movie Masters, so you can have Egon duke it out with the Joker. I will say that while the new Slimer is nice, I’m glad I have the NECA one.
  • Early images of the Hasbro SDCC booth, including some Marvel Universe figures. (Apparently you have to register to see the bigger pics.)
  • Too soon? But I kid the toy industry. Frankly, it’s MJ’s own fault for making such a famous zombie video. And I think he’d be amused by the whole thing, honestly.
  • Dr. Mrs. Ghostal and I watched the pilot and first two eps of Warehouse 13 last night. It’s not as quirky as Eureka and the two main characters aren’t (yet) as appealing as Scully and Mulder, but I like Saul Rubinek’s nutty professor, and the “haunted objects” are an interesting hook–sort of like a reverse Reaper. They need to drop the whole Secret Service angle, though–it’s just too hard to explain what the hell they’re doing at crime scenes. In any event, I’m willing to give it a try–so many of my favorite shows (like X-Files and Star Trek: The Next Generation) started with fairly weak first seasons, particularly when viewed in retrospect.

    Want Egon now.

Odd: I'm really excited about Egon. I'm glad I decided (really, Mattel made the decision for me) to get him instead of the Wonder Twins.

End: I'll have to check out Warehuse 13. I tried to get into Reaper, however I just couldn't get into it despite multiple viewings. I never got into Eureka either, so we'll see about this show. For some unexplained reason, I love Saul Rubinek, so that just gives me more reason to check this out.

I agree a lot of shows need at least three seasons to hit full stride. Star Trek: The Next Generation is a perfect example, the compare season 1 or 2 to season 3 or 4, huge difference! Unfortunately, a lot of networks don't give shows enough time to develop and really find their niche. Take shows like Firefly, Invasion or Jericho that had really interesting concepts but didn't take off quite like a show like LOST did, and therefore were pulled.

Oh Egon, you will be mine… Slimer isn't that great, and certainly not accurate. NECA Slimer is indeed superior.

  4. Nik

Yeah, I'm a little confused as to how Slimer came out so… generic. Did the 4H not work on him too?

  5. finkrod

'Warehouse 13' is about retrieving haunted items? So it's essentially an updated version of 'Friday the 13th: The Series'?

  6. I really like the Slimer. I think he'll look better painted, but I want that translucent one.

Bummer on the proton packs though. Not being able to take them off is a bit of sad news.

I haven't gotten a good look at Slimer yet. I'm @ work and surprisingly this is the only site I can get on. I don't want to push my luck too much either, they're pretty strict here… =(

@Finkrod: What about The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo?

  8. PresidentJuggernaut

He doesn't look as gross as he did in the movie. Where is the sculpted crack?

  9. Poe

@finkrod: Yeah, except people are watching it. Oh snap!

I vaguely recall watching this as a kid at some point. I'll have to check out some YouTube videos to see if it sparks any memories. Like when I reviewed Filmation's Ghostbusters, a show I hadn'tseen in twenty years, memories of having already watched it hit me like a ton of bricks.

The Egon looks good except for the glasses. I guess I'd rather have seen those as a sculpted part of his head, but would there be a way to make them transparent?

I also like the Deadpool Mighty Mugg and the brown costume Wolverine 3.75" at the Hasbro booth. I was kinda hoping not to have much to look forward to spending my money on.

I have to reserve judgement until I actually get him, but the NECA Slimer looks a LOT better than the Mattel version.

Anyone else surprised by the quality of the cloth costumes on the 12" Ghostbusters? They look pretty nice, and here I was thinking they'd just be larger versions of the 6" line. I'm not buying them though.

If I buy the other three, and they never get Bill Murray's likeness, I'll be so pissed…

  14. Hey Poe, if you end up with an Egon would you be willing to sell your Slimer to me in a few weeks?

  15. Poe

@NG: I think I'm going to be too much of a completist on this line (such as I can be). But you could always get an Egon off Mattycollector.com on August 3.
