Odds ‘n Ends

  • OK, I’ve got like three entries into my Odds ‘n Ends contest. Again, I’ve changed the rules so it’s just the person who correctly identifies the mosts items from the photo above–you don’t have to name them all to win, just the most. I’ll pick a random winner in the event of a tie. Now email me that list!
  • Incidentally, don’t forget to donate to your local Toys for Tots and take a photo of yourself doing it, so you can enter Toy Bender‘s Joes for Tots contest for way-awesome prizes. Why not hit one of those KB Toys going-out-of-business sales? Their loss is less fortunate children’s gain!
  • I watched A Miser Brothers’ Christmas over the weekend, and you know what? It was good! For one thing, it was so refreshing to see actual stop-motion animation, rather than the CGI they’ve tried to use for these Rankin-Bass sequels over the last few years. The characterization of the Misers was dead-on, and I enjoyed their constant fraternal squabbling. The songs weren’t as catchy as those from The Year Without a Santa Claus, but it was great to have Mickey Rooney back in the sleigh as the voice of Santa. Also, the North Wind looked like the result of some bizarre genetic cross-breeding between Jay Leno and the Purple Pieman.
  • On a related topic, I’ve got a contest running over on my Snow Miser fansite. You can win one of three Miser prize packs, courtesy of ABC Family. Enter now–or y’know, after you enter my Odds ‘n Ends contest.
  • Looks like Hot Toys has finally obtained the rights to make 12″ figures of the original 1987 Predator and–could it be?–Dutch Schaefer!
  • Do any of you watch The Big Bang Theory? I thought last night’s episode was great–Sheldon’s reaction to Penny’s gift was priceless.
  • The MOTUC He-Man and Beast Man figures my wife ordered for me for Christmas still haven’t arrived at her parents’ house in Los Angeles. And they were shipped two weeks ago from Ontario, California–which is about seventy miles away. Wha-huh?
  • As implied above, Dr. Mrs. Ghostal and I will be spending the holidays at her parents’ house in LA, on the other side of the continent. However, thanks to her brand-new laptop and her parents’ wi-fi connection, I should be able to handle all my updating myself this year, so there shouldn’t be any noticeable break in your daily doses of PGPoA (except for Christmas Day, of course).

Odds ‘n Ends

As always, feel free to add your own odds ‘n ends in the comments!

ODD: This week’s issue of ToyFare features at least two awesome things: photos of Mattel’s next Mattycollector-exclusive DCUC two-pack (Ultraman and Alex Luthor) and an interview with Geoff Johns by yours truly. Buy it at your local comic shop tomorrow, or I’ll come to your house and smash all your fine china. (more…)

Odds n’ Ends

Apologies for the late Odds ‘n Ends today. I’m down with a bit of a cold, and it took a while to get up the energy to snap the new O&E pic.

You know the drill–feel free to add your own Odds and Ends in the comments section. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends

ODD: Not too much to discuss today…just trying to survive until the four-day weekend. Come this time next week, PGPoA–and the Poe household–will be in full holiday mode.

END: The DCUC Toys ‘R Us two-packs have started to show up, which is just a bit earlier than I predicted (early December). The only set I’m praying I ever see in person is the Orion/Lightray one, but there’s also a Batgirl/Azrael set (both of whom were previously released) and one with Hal Jordan (in his first appearance duds) and Abin Sur. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > 11/18/08

ODD: I’ve got a new poll up on the sidebar. Please take a minute to fill it out. It’s just another part of my effort to make sure PGPoA is bringing you the content you want. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > 11/11/08

It’s time for another round of Odds ‘n Ends, your weekly dose of whatever the hell I happen to be thinking about at the moment. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > November 4, 2008

Sorry for the boring title, but the sequel subtitle thing is getting old, and besides, eventually I’m going to run out of them.

ODD: The winners have been selected for the Z.O.M.B.I.E. Apocalypse contest! I’ll announce them as soon as everything has been confirmed and so forth. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > Dream Warriors

ODD: I still can’t believe I found a Batpod on my first try. I still haven’t seen a single DCUC4 figure anywhere. I’m going to briefly interrupt the DCUC4 reviews for a Batpod review this week–BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!!! And also to hopefully head off any other reviewers. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > The New Blood

ODD: DCUC4 has arrived, and the winner is: James B! His selection of October 9 was right on the money. He’ll be recieving a mint-on-card Batman Beyond. That contest is over, but you can still win some free Z.O.M.B.I.E. toys! I’ll be reviewing DCUC4 over the course of next week, since you people seem to like reviews.

END: Is it just me, or does it seem like this has become a pretty dead period for toys and toy news? Maybe everyone’s holding back for Christmas, or maybe the looming economic recession is weighing heavily on everyone’s minds…I don’t know. Just seems dead lately.

ODD: You may have noticed I’ve added a link to my Twitter feed in the upper right corner. If you’ve ever wondered what random thoughts pass through Poe’s mind  on a daily basis, this link’s for you.

END: Poe’s Patented CSI: Miami mini-review: OK, let me think…what was last night’s episode about? Oh yeah, the Russian mafia. I’m guessing mob boss Ivan (seriously, CSI: Miami? Ivan?) will be a recurring villain this season. The promos for this ep suggested it would be about a cannibal serial killer, and I’m kind of disappointed that wasn’t the case. The Russian Mafia? Having dealt with Italian mobsters and the Mala Noche, I guess Horatio’s going to work his way through all the ethnic gangs. I wonder when the Yakuza will show up.

Yes, this is what I watch instead of Heroes. I should turn in my geek badge and lightsaber.
