While I grew up on WLVI-56’s Creature Double Feature, I don’t remember seeing any Gamera films until I saw this VHS tape at the local video store (remember video stores? that’s where you saw awesome-but-misleading covers like this). Though my heart would always belong to Godzilla, I enjoyed checking out the Gamera films and all his bizarro opponents. The weirdest by far was Gurion, the giant knife-headed lizard-dog, but the flatiron-pated bird Gyaos was cool too. (more…)

Toy Aisle Trolls > Bottle Cap-tain America

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe AT poeghostal.com.

The Problem: Here’s one for the ages. The shields of both Cap and U.S. Agent have been replaced with painted bottle caps. PAINTED BOTTLE CAPS. We’re through the looking-glass here, people. Cap’s parachute is also handmade.
I don’t even know how to assess this one. Why would this sad, sad person want to steal just two shields and a cheap parachute? Did they swap them in the store or buy them and return them?
This one seems less like an act of theft and more like a cry for attention. It’s the first TAT that really makes me wonder if I’m actually encouraging this sort of behavior. Perhaps it’s time to retire the feature…?
Update: Poester Braystreet points out: “The Fortress Assault figure is in the Parachute Package and the Paratrooper figure is actually supposed to be a plain Captain America.”
Identify the Toy > Smiley Allosaurus (Identified!)
I bet someone will figure out this one even faster than last time. No prize this time, because I’m thinking this is going to be a regular feature and I don’t have enough Swords of Ages. (I’m trying to come up with some sort of No-Prize-like thing for situations like this–suggestions welcome.)
Anyway, who is this highly-inaccurate dinosaur with the Joker-like grin, and what line does he come from?
I thought it was either Playskool’s Definitely Dinosaurs or Tyco’s Dino Riders, but while this pic comes from a post about Definitely Dinosaurs (and the little dude next to him is from DD), what little research I’ve done seems to indicate he’s not from that line. (more…)
Odds ‘n Ends > Wind Raider update, Demo-Man shipping delays

- NECA has posted a packaging pic of Deadite Ash, and he looks damned awesome. I’ve been waiting for this figure line since 1993. You can preorder the figures through PGPoA sponsor UrbanCollectibles.
- Wind Raider update: as it happened, we were actually home when the UPS guy came. He took the box and gave us the tracking number. My wife then called the regular customer service number, as the Escalation Department had told her to do. The regular CS person took the information and then told DMG she would refer it to the Escalation Department with 24-72 hours. The Escalation Dept. will then email us, presumably with the new order number. The only real question is, what will be wrong with the replacement Raider?
- On a related note, I have yet to receive a shipping notice for my subscription Demo-Man and Battleground Evil-lyn. Some collectors are guessing that all the Demo-Mans didn’t arrive in one shipment, and Mattel/Digital River are shipping the figures out as they arrive. I suspect that’s exactly what’s going on.
- Has everyone caught that Chevy Silverado ad with all the toys?
- Sponsor News: BigBadToyStore has their exclusive G.I. Joe Slaughter’s Marauders and Dreadnoks in stock now. If you want to read a review first before ordering, check out GeneralsJoes. Meanwhile, Figure of the Day has the popular Marvel Select Deadpool for $20 with free shipping.

The Problem: The Grune figure has been replaced by…something.
Mr. G writes: “I found this at Kmart in Carson, Ca. I don’t know who that other figure is, but my first thought was Vultureman.”
Odds ‘n Ends > Steve Jobs, Four Horsemen, & Reviews

- Random news bits: a $100 12″ Steve Jobs figure (kinda creepy, possibly unlicensed), new Hot Toys Robocop figs, late-to-the-party Samurai Pizza Cats figure. There was also a list of possible G.I. Joe: Retaliation assortments on the Web, but it seems to have gone missing.
- The Four Horsemen are going to have their second annual toy show at Toy Tokyo in February this year. Called Futuretro (“Future-Retro”), the show “will feature many all-new, never before seen items and even some fan favorites and toy industry classics from the Four Horsemen’s past, present and future!” They’re even soliciting fan entries of Outer Space Men customs to be part of the show, so all you customizers OSM fans, get crackin’.
- Reviews that caught my eye: 6″ ThunderCats Classic Mumm-Ra (Michael Crawford); DCUC Magog (OAFE); and a list of every review Infinite Hollywood did this year.
