Captain Power by – c a r l o s o r o z c o –

Poe’s note: I’m sad to admit I never got into the whole Captain Power thing (except for Soaron Sky Sentry, of course). Kids could interact with the TV show using the toy vehicles, which could take damage or score hits based on flashes from the screen. Pretty innovative, especially for the time, and I’m kind of surprised the whole “light gun” technology never grew beyond its application to 1980s toys and a small niche of the videogame market.

Poe’s Point > Dear Mattel, please fix DCUC’s distribution…

…because I just can’t read another post about how people can’t find them.

I’ll admit it, I’ve had a relatively easy time of it with DC Universe Classics. I’ve pre-ordered every wave (except the Wal-mart exclusive Metallo wave) online, and they’ve all arrived in a timely fashion. If there have been any variants I’ve wanted and didn’t get in my cases, I’ve bought them on eBay or traded for them at reasonable prices. For the Wal-mart wave, I paid a fellow collector (at cost with shipping) to buy them all when he found them at Wal-mart and ship them to me. (more…)

News round-up, 11/18/08

Unfortunately, I don’t think these news round-ups can be a daily thing. There just isn’t enough significant toy-related news on a daily basis. But I’ll try to get them out every other day.

Rustin Parr’s King Grayskull review Long, but well worth the read. Rustin seems certain MOTUC is going to crash and burn. Personally, I really like the design of the line, but those of us who do seem to be the minority.

Hasbro’s Star Wars Q&A round-up If I put a round-up within a round-up, does the universe implode? (Looks around hopefully, sighs in resignation.)

Odds ‘n Ends > 11/18/08

ODD: I’ve got a new poll up on the sidebar. Please take a minute to fill it out. It’s just another part of my effort to make sure PGPoA is bringing you the content you want. (more…)

Ask Matty round-up, 11/17/08

I decided to skip this round of Ask Matty (mostly to wait for the announcement of Wave 8, so I could ask questions about that). Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next round won’t be until December 15.

Other sites had a few questions for this round, though. (more…)

DCUC 4 on Toysrus.com

Everything may very well be gone by the time you read this, but a few figures from DCUC Wave 4 are currently up for order on Toys ‘R Us’s website.

DC Universe Classics action figure stands

While I’ve found my assortment of the McFarlane stands to be more than adequate to the task of supporting my DCUC collection, I thought it would be a service to you, the discriminating toy collector, if I were to order a set of the official Mattel stands and review them.

Here’s my one-sentence review for those too lazy to read after the jump: unless you decide you really need that “DC Universe” logo, buy the cheaper, flatter and more attractive McFarlane stands. (more…)
