DC Direct isn’t known for its SDCC Exclusives–I can’t remember a single one off the top of my head–but that’s gonna change this year.
Now THAT’S an exclusive
While I wasn’t as enamoured of Hellboy 2 as I was the first film (for various reasons not necessarily related to the quality of the film itself), and I don’t collect 3 ¾” toylines, I have to say that this is probably one of the coolest SDCC exclusives this year. It’s a 7″ Golden Army Soldier, in scale with the rest of the 3 ¾” figures, and it even comes with a Hellboy to mix it up with.
At $30 the set is pricey, though keep in mind, the Golden Army Soldier is the same size as Mezco’s regular 7″ figures, and those exclusives usually averaged about $25–plus you get the Hellboy.
And at least Mezco’s offering all their SDCC exclusives for sale on their website (I’m looking at you, Gleek).
Mezco’s award-winning 3.75inch Hellboy line continues with the addition of the highly anticipated Golden Army Soldier! The Golden Army Soldier stands approximately 7 inches tall (in scale next to the other figures in the 3.75inch series) and features eight points of articulation. He comes packaged with a 3.75inch Hellboy, who comes complete with a base, and his legendary sidearm, the Samaritan. Ships in Late July 2009.
JLU SDCC Green Lantern pics
What’s this? JLU news on PGPoA? No, your eyes do not deceive you!
Mattel has sent along these images of the San Diego Comic Con JLU exclusive Green Lantern set. Love the packaging.
Warning: As is always the policy here at PGPoA, I am posting the images at the full resolution they were sent to me. The packaging images are huge (4+ Mb each), so I recommend saving them rather than trying to view them here on the site.
NECA reveals SDCC exclusives
While a few of these (at least April O’Neil) have been previously revealed, NECA released the full list of their SDCC exclusives on their website today. (more…)
Ask Mattel for May 15

It’s been stated that Mattycollector.com’s goal is to have MOTUC figures on sale for about two weeks before they sell out. Given that so many people order as soon as they go on sale, is that a realistic goal? Obviously as long as they’re selling out in less than an hour they’re being under-produced, but some of us are becoming concerned that these early sell-outs will create a “bubble” for MOTUC speculation that will cause Mattel to over-produce the line and then, when sales lag for less popular characters, the line might be prematurely canceled. How is Mattel taking these issues into account?
We are increasing production of MOTUC figures and will also go back into production on the older figures who have sold out.
philipjreed asks: Approximately how many Mer-Men were shipped? Will the larger production runs bring down the price on future figures?
All of the Mer-Men produced were shipped, but we do not give out production numbers or future pricing.
It was hinted on the Mattycollector Facebook page that the black-and-gray Batman repaint in the Batman/Clayface two-pack would eventually be released without the “mud splatter” paint. Assuming this is true, would this figure be otherwise identical, or is there a chance we could get the much-desired modern Batman with the pouch belt and black bat symbol (like the Infinite Heroes version)?
That is yet to be revealed!
As of right now, what is the approximate in-stores date for DCUC Wave 9?
Mid-summer.
How soon can we expect to see some hints or preview pics of Battle Cat?
We’’ll have him at SDCC.
There’s Another Transformers Exclusive…
In addition to the Soundwave Hasbro is offering at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, they announced that there will be another Transformer available in the form of a Mighty Mugg. It’s Optimus Prime sporting a new metallic finish.

Yeah, I’m not really that big into Mighty Muggs, so this doesn’t even blip on my radar as desirable. There’s a few Mighty Muggs that seem kind of cool, but Transformers make the worst transition to the world of these fake indie toys, due to the fact that Transformers are supposed to be blocky and not flattened out on round surfaces. Nevertheless, I’m sure I’m wrong because my wife said that Optimus here was, “adorable”.

Mattel Q&A Roundup for January 14
Wow. Mattel had no fewer than nine ten Q&As yesterday. Here’s a list for reference:

About 50% of the questions had something to do with quality control or distribution, but there were still some good questions and answers in there. Here are a few highlights. (more…)
Ask Mattel > January edition

Time for our latest round of Ask Mattel with Mattel’s Toy Guru!
1.) How soon can we expect the MOTUC character selection to branch out beyond the 1982-1983 waves?
2010 will feature both POP and New Adventures characters. We just could not fit these figures into the first 12 due to time limitation! We do have plans to get to them in early 2010.
2.) Will Faker’s chest emblem be a sticker, or tampo?
It is a tampo. We looked at doing a sticker but it just wasn’t working out and honestly, was making the figure look cheap.
3.) At the SDCC DC panel, it was mentioned Mattel had changed vendors (i.e., factories) due to quality control problems around the time DCUC wave 4 was being produced. However, there have been a greater-than-average number of reports of QC problems with the Walmart wave and the two-packs, which were, I think, produced after the vendor switch. Wave 1 and the initial shipments of wave 2 were very good QC-wise. What are the challenges facing Mattel in solving these QC issues? (more…)
