Big Mattel update on the Teela situation

Yesterday Mattel posted a fairly comprehensive update of the situation on–get this–the Mattycollector website (as opposed to Facebook). Text after the jump.

For the record, it seems that pretty much all subscribers–including me–received their shipping confirmations overnight. (more…)

Boston Comic Con

I’ll be attending the Boston Comic Con this Saturday (along with Poester Sped). If any of you Massholes or other New Englanders are going and are interested in meeting up, shoot me an email at poe AT poeghostal.com and we’ll make some plans for a late lunch or something. If enough people are interested maybe we can even arrange a mini swap meet of some sort.

Optikk for MOTUC?

optikk_accessories_front

According to a poster on He-Man.org, Mattel filed for the trademarks to Optikk, Tytus, and Megator this month. (It should be noted that ToyGuru has said that Mattel now files for all sorts of trademarks to hide which characters they’re actually making. Ah, the perils of the Information Age.)

I’ve long hoped Optikk would be the first NA figure in MOTUC. But since his design was so unique, I’ve been trying to figure out how they’d make him using existing MOTUC parts. Here’s my guess:

  • Head – new sculpt
  • Armor – new sculpt
  • Chest: generic heroic (hidden by armor)
  • Shoulders, biceps and hands: Trap-Jaw/Kronis
  • Forearms: Trap-Jaw, possibly some new tooling
  • Crotch: He-Ro
  • Thighs: Trap-Jaw, possibly some new tooling
  • Calves and boots: He-Ro

Mattycollector Fun

So…Mattel and Digital River struck again yesterday. I thought everything was fine and all set. I was wrong.

At 3:45pm EDT I received an email saying Mattel/DR “were unable to renew [my] subscription due to a credit card authorization failure.” Sure, that made perfect sense since the orders for Webstor went through fine last month on the exact same card. (more…)

Mattel’s Dream Halloween Art Show

3logos01Mattel’s annual Dream Halloween event will be taking place at the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, CA on October 22 from 6:30-8:30 PM. It’s an art show featuring over 70 pieces of original art by Mattel employees, including art based on classic brands such as Masters of the Universe and Hot Wheels. To see some of the art, click here.

This event is open to Mattel employees, as well as the general public. Invite a friend and start bidding. Attire is casual. Light food and drinks will be served. Guests must be 18 years or older.

For more information, visit Halloween in Toyland or download this PDF flier.

Turtles, meet the Turtles

Topless Robot borrowed the Corn Sword Song from me, so I’m gonna borrow this–a clip from the new Turtles Forever special where the 1980s Ninja Turtles meet the 2003 Ninja Turtles (scheduled to air November 15).

Looks pretty funny, actually.

Happy Teela Day!

I’m curious–due to the bonus figures, Ghostbusters, DCUC and so forth, how many of you have actually been able to avoid logging on to Mattycollector thanks to the subscription? As of right now, the only month in the foreseeable future that I’ll get away with it was…last month. Next month I have to get the He-Man reissue, then in December there’s the Green Goddess and Winston, January has Battle Armor He-Man, Battle-Cat in February and Walter Peck in March…sigh.

Oh, and Bank Robber Joker is on sale today, too. Also, don’t forget, the MasterPOEce voting ends tonight at midnight!
