Show and Tell > Meet the Raisins

By PrfktTear

Created by the California Raisin Advisory Board, The California Raisins began as a marketing plan to sell raisins. They came up with the idea of the anthropomorphic singing and dancing raisins which would attract the attention of kids. What started as an idea to get people to eat raisins grew into a whole brand of its own complete with a myriad of merchandising opportunities. The California Raisins had their own television specials, albums, t-shirts, posters, pillows, and lunch boxes. You name it, they slapped The California Raisin brand name on it, and it sold. (more…)

Recent Acquisitions

The Hellboys I got from Entertainment Earth, I bought Prince Nuada at a Newbury Comics, and the rest were trades. The first one is Magnokor from the Inhumanoids, then the two Hellboy figures, then Mr. Wink, Nuada, and Lucifer from Dark Alliance (Lucifer’s standing on the Moore Collectibles action figure display base, which was produced way back in 1999 and seems to be extremely hard to find these days).

The Hellboys are interesting. They’re not as nicely produced as the 2004 movie line, despite using almost all the same molds. The trenchcoats are very rubbery this time, and the paint is sloppy in places. But the Big Baby gun is awesome, and I really like finally having a shirtless Hellboy with a plastic coat.

Poe in Pictures > March 1985

Mumma Ghostal (or it may have been Sister Ghostal) came across this photo recently, revealing a young Poe surrounded by a cornucopia of plastic playthings (and proudly showing off his Rancor, whose battered, one-legged carcass still resides in my parents’ attic). Once I saw it, I had to inventory all the toys shown in the photo.

Can you find them all?

Masters of the Universe toys:

  • Castle Grayskull
  • He-Man
  • Prince Adam
  • Zoar
  • Faker
  • Beast Man
  • Battle Cat
  • Mer-Man
  • Wind Raider
  • Attak Trak

Star Wars toys:

  • Luke Skywalker in Jedi Knight Outfit
  • Nien Nunb
  • C-3P0
  • Gamorrean Guard
  • Klaatu
  • Weequay
  • Biker Scout
  • Speeder Bike
  • Rancor
  • Princess Leia in Boushh Disguise
  • Chewbacca
  • Han Solo
  • 8D8
  • Squid Head
  • Warok Teebo
  • Logray

There are a few things I’m not sure about: who did the little spear in the lower right corner (next to Weequay) belong to? And is that an Intellivision in the upper right corner, or something else? As for the coloring book, I have no idea what it is, but it looks MOTU-esque to me.
