1.) 3B asks: The larger knee pads on some WWE figures (i.e. Triple H, Batista, and all wrestlers with the kick-pads, etc.) really restrict the leg articulation, is it possible to mold these in a softer, more flexible plastic?

This is something we have been looking into and will pass this comment onto our design team! (more…)

List > Five Action Figures Who Cost Us Better Ones

One of the greatest tributes to a pop culture character’s popularity is to be made into the immortal idol known as an action figure. And while many characters have been so blessed, there are still many deserving characters who remain un-sculpted in plastic.

And yet, while we have no figure of Dutch Schaefer from Predator, Rasputin from the Hellboy comic or Buzzard from The Goon, we do haveĀ  these obscure or unwanted characters who not only got their own figure, but were given spots in action figure lines that ended immediately after their appearance, thereby preventing a more desirable figure from getting made. Happy Orko Day!

Mattel’s big post-SDCC sale begins today at noon. How fast will Orko and Plastic Man sell out? How about Mo-Larr? Guesses? Here are mine:

  • Orko: less than 10 minutes
  • Plastic Man: 10-15 minutes
  • Mo-Larr: 2-3 hours

I’m not as sure about Starro, particularly because I think he loses a lot of his appeal without the mini-Starros.

Anyway, here’s a link to the general sale page.

Poe’s Point > On the return of 6″ Marvel Legends

Marvel Legends close 1

Marvel Legends close 1 by Carls Life

At their Marvel SDCC panel, Hasbro said that 6″ Marvel Legends would be returning “in full force” in 2012. I started to wonder why that would be, given how strongly they’ve been pushing Marvel Universe, and I’m wondering if it’s the success of DCUC that has them reconsidering. (more…)

SDCC > Rustin Parr’s Report, Day 3

Friday 7/23

What does one do on Day 2 when the vast majority of exclusive figures on their list were acquired on Day 1? Stroll and go to Panels! And pick up the voucher pre-sale stuff from Matty, of course (incredibly painless and easy – Hasbro, et al, should take note and do the same!). (more…)

SDCC > Mattel DC Panel News

It looks like 2011 will be the Year of the Green Lantern for Mattel’s DC Universe division.

Some highlights from the panel:

  • DCIH will focus on Green Lantern in 2011
  • There will be two DCUC-style waves of Green Lantern Classics, of six figures each, with a CnC for each wave
  • Some GLC figures will have swappable hands and heads
  • Wave 2 will feature an original Red Lantern figure created by the Four Horsemen and named by Geoff Johns
  • DCUC Green Lanterns may get the Blue Beetle super-articulated treatment
  • Ch’ip is coming
  • There will be 6 new DC vs. MOTU 2-packs, including Hawkman vs. Stratos (blue wing/red backpack variant) and Aquaman vs. Mer-Man (minicomic colors variant). Trap Jaw also in the works, possibly to be paired with Cyborg Superman or Metallo
  • Legion of Superheroes will get a DCUC 12-pack
