MOTUC 30th Anniversary News & Carded Pics/Bios of Sorceress, Fisto, Fearless Photog, & Shadow Weaver
So I was up all night worrying I wasn’t keeping you all up-to-date on Mattel’s plans for MOTU’s 30th Anniversary…no, that’s a heathen lie. I didn’t even know about this until I saw it on ToyNewsI five minutes ago, which really proves how much better other sources are at this than me. (more…)

Ask Mattel > Answers for December 1

Joshq asks: Regarding the DC All-Stars reveals: is what we see what we get? Will there be additional pack-ins or accessories?
Some figures will include accessories. For example, Larfleeze will come with a lantern.
Andy asks: What was the reasoning behind the character selection for DCUC All Stars series 1? Because is seems to conflict with the aforementioned intent of this line which was to select mainstream characters for a broader appeal.

Odds ‘n Ends > Waiting for Ask Mattel Answers Edition

- Check out this fun AFI article on the DNA of Kenner’s frankensteinian Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves line (which I’ve previously discussed here).
- I actually got all 440 Riddler puzzles in Arkham City. I was tempted to go for 100% completion, but the truth is I find all the non-Predator challenges pretty boring. 100% completion in Arkham City does not reward diehard Bat-fans or game players…it rewards the obsessive-compulsive.
- GeekChicDaily is having a pretty awesome contest to celebrate the holiday season. You can win a slew of geeky goodies by entering right here.
- I was asked by my friend and former ToyFare editor Adam Tracey to pass along this link to his website, JoeShopping.com. Their theme this holiday season is “The Last Christmas Ever,” since as we all know 2012 will be the end of the world according to willful ignorance.
- Sponsor News: BigBadToyStore has preorders (sets and singles) for the incredibly awesome G.I. Joe Series 04 2012–which features the Zombie-Viper and Sci-Fi; a pre-order for the kick-ass Play Arts Kai Nathan Drake fromUncharted; and a preorder for the MonsterArts SpaceGodzilla, which I have mixed feelings about. The MonsterArts Godzilla is actually in stock now. They also have a 1/4 scale exclusive Gort Predator from NECA.
- Speaking of BBTS, a preorder popped up on their site for a DCUC “Reign of Superman” set featuring Superboy, Steel, Eradicator, Doomsday and Cyborg Superman. Here’s hoping the Doomsday is a new sculpt. And why no long-haired or Recovery Suit Supes?
Four years of PGPoA! + A Fairly Big Announcement
Today marks PGPoA’s fourth anniversary. It’s hard to believe I’ve actually kept this blog going so long–generally my projects peter out after a few months, at best. I’m not sure what can account for the longevity except that I evidently really, really like toys.
As I’m sure you’re aware, 2011 was something of a tough year. I spent a lot of the year considering quitting the blog entirely, even going so far as to write the post where I announced it, but something kept holding me back. The time I’d invested into it, the positive comments of the readers whenever I pondered aloud the possibility of quitting–all of these things have kept me going. At this point, the biggest problem I’m running into is finding time to write.
So of course, why not compound that problem by starting a new blog?
Another thing I’ve often considered is broadening PGPoA’s scope to embrace other, non-toy topics. I decided I preferred to keep PGPoA’s laserlike focus on the toy collector niche. However, I’m desperate to write about something other than plastic playthings, and so I give you:
Poe Ghostal Unpegged!
PGU, as I’ve taken to calling it (at least until I found my own university), will be the place where I can ruminate about geeky topics unrelated to toys–movies, comics, videogames, books, and so forth. I’m not looking to set the world on fire, I just need an outlet for my thoughts on Christmas action movies and my thoughts on the IDW Godzilla comics. Down the line I may look for ways to integrate the two blogs more closely, but for now, PGPoA will remain focused entirely on toys, while you can go to PGU for everything else geek.
