LEGO Minifigures defeat my willpower effortlessly

There’s no way–just no way–I’m going to be capable of resisting these blind-boxed Lego minifigures. Between the zombie, the robot, the astronaut and the luchador…it was over before it began. I got a taste for blind-boxed fun with Dr. Mrs. Ghostal’s recent obsession with the Kidrobot Futurama stuff, and now this.

I’m sure at least some of you feel the same way, so we might as well set up the special trading thread right now. These will hit in June. Anyone know which ones will be super-rare? I’d like to know which ones I’ll never see. I’m betting it’s the robot.

He-Man vs. Skeletor, Street Fighter-style

I have no idea what M.U.G.E.N. is or how it somehow brought this into existence, but it’s here now and it’s made from 100% uncut awesome.

Toy Aisle Trolls > Shanghai ShowDOWNER

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe AT poeghostal.com. Also, please note: I’m deliberately being over-the-top with my condemnation of these people–I don’t actually wish bodily harm upon them. Just severe mental anguish.

I don’t know enough about Transformers these days to have any clue what Sabertron Toys is talking about in regard to this set, so I shall present it as it was received. (more…)

Mattel SDCC exclusives [will *not* be] revealed on Attack of the Show tonight

[UPDATE: Well, mea culpa–my bad for believing RCN’s description of tonight’s episode. Anyway, according to an update on Mattel’s Facebook the exclusives will be revealed “later this month.”]

Just what the title says. I’ll update this post once they’re revealed; use it for discussion purposes.

Any guesses? We know Mo-Larr and Skeletor, but there’s still another MOTUC SDCC exclusive, plus the DCUC exclusive, JLU exclusive and probably some sort of CARS and/or Toy Story exclusive.

Poe’s Point > Variants & Variations

As someone who writes about toys frequently, one thing I’ve often puzzled over is what to call figures that are of main characters in multiple outfits. I’m talking Battle Armor He-Man, Arctic Batman, Undercover Donatello, that sort of thing.

Calling them variants is misleading. I think most collectors think of a “variant” as the result of a production error or a running change in production. An example of a production error is “Party Angela,” a figure in McFarlane Toys’ Spawn line where the factory infamously neglected to paint her panties on. An example of a running change is the recent flocked-ears & unflocked ears Moss Man. So while some collectors do still use “variant” to describe the likes of Battle Armor He-Man, I’ve always wanted to come up with a separate term. (more…)

Mattel explains the bios

Mattel’s Scott Neitlich (ToyGuru) posted a pretty interesting explanation for how the bios work on Masters of the Universe Classics. I know not everyone is big on the bios, but I’m enjoying the ongoing story that’s being pieced together. (Text after the jump.) (more…)
