Interview at the Fwoosh

For whatever reason, the Fwoosh deemed me interesting enough for an interview.  Check it out here:

Secret Identities – Poe Ghostal

Apologies for the slow day–I’ve got the day off and finally executed my long-delayed plan to watch Fellowship of the Ring on our widescreen TV. I love those movies dearly, but the extended edition of that movie is long. Now I have to carve out eight more hours at some point for the other two…

New He-Man movie even less likely than before

heman_beastman-3

Variety reports that Mattel and Warner Brothers won’t be working together to bring the Most Powerful Man in the Universe to the silver screen again.

This is after they’d already thrown out the potentially film-able script by Justin Marks, who’s at least partially responsible for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

I’ve had my doubts about this project all along, and I still doubt a new He-Man movie will ever see the light of day. While it certainly has a devoted coterie of fans, Masters of the Universe has never had a cult following on the scale of Transformers or G.I. Joe, and more to the point, its concepts are even goofier. Optimus Prime and Duke are relatively cool names; He-Man is not.

That said, stranger things have definitely happened before (like hugely successful films based on amusement park rides), and I can imagine a world where a He-Man movie does well.

Worried about Walmart and DCUC Wave 10? Sign here.

Brian over at Pendragon’s Post has started a petition to ask Walmart to improve distribution on DC Universe Classics, particularly Wave 10.

I know this is an issue near and dear to many of us–OK, well, not me so much anymore, though I do want that Joker, bad. Anyway, this is one way to help make sure Walmart’s aware of the problem. Just head to the link below and add your John Hancock:

Your daily dose of something to hate

Let’s all hate the anonymous scumbag turd who did this.

Paul on RTM tells the tale:

Had to go back to work early Sunday and pick up a flash drive someone left for me and along the way I stopped in at a Wal-Mart, just to have a look around. No new DCUC singles, but what did I see on the bottom shelf? Yes, the fabled DCUC Gotham City 5-pack. I haven’t really wanted the darn thing, but I did sort of want to buy it after seeing it in person. That is until I lifted it up to eye level and immediately saw that Lex Luthor had been replaced by Green Lantern. Not just any Green Lantern, one of the ones with a reversed right forearm. Also, the scalper-scum had added insult to injury by making his own little crude symbol of something that looks like a hand flipping the bird along with the words “GOT FIRST.” I took the five-pack and showed it to a Wal-mart employee and told him what had happened. He acted like he understood, but as I walked away, I saw him head back to the toy department with it….just all-around disgusting.

Mattel summons Scareglow

sg4

Mattel has posted some great photos of Scareglow, complete with his new bio, which doesn’t quite explain that weird, awesome accessory.

It does, however, clear up the whole “is he Skeletor’s ghost or just a guy who works for Skeletor?” issue–he’s an “Evil Ghost Serving Skeletor.” Better than “Evil Ghost Serving #52, Buffalo Chicken on Country Parmesan,” I suppose. (more…)

Joe Amaro’s classic Grayskull makes us all jealous…again

Everyone

You may remember customizer extraordinaire Joe Amaro making a really badass modern Castle Grayskull for the 2002 Masters of the Universe line (I think I may even have spotted it on Robot Chicken once or twice).

Well, Amaro’s at it again, this time creating a supremely awesome classic Grayskull in scale with MOTU Classics.

Will Mattel grant our fondest wishes and mass produce Joe’s masterpiece? No. But we can admire it anyway! More pics here.

Custom District 9 mech way cooler than Avatar statue

d9_mecha

I just saw District 9 last night (I’ll try to get my review up on my other website, Biggerboat, sometime soon), and naturally I came away wondering about the toy potential of the movie.

To my knowledge, no company’s announced having scored the license, which reminds me a bit of how toy companies missed the boat with The Matrix (and then we got those mediocre N2 figures before McFarlane got the license after the hype had died down and buried it with McStatues).

However, one enterprising customizer has created this supremely badass custom prawn mech, which already has bids over $500 on eBay. I have to believe a few toy companies are taking notice. (more…)
