Any questions for Mattel?

Questions due by 11:59pm Monday, June 13.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: sarcastic, snarky, and/or mean comments will not be submitted. I get where the anger comes from, but it’s a waste of your time and mine. I think the general atmosphere of these threads may be discouraging lurkers from asking genuine questions.

Feel free to ask the hard questions, just ask them without the emotion, if you can help it.

Ask Mattel > Answers for June 1, 2011

1.) Zach asks: I’ve noticed a disheartening increase in the amount of Collect-N-Connect figure pieces stolen from the packages of DC Universe Classics figures. While their placement in the package (at the bottom, behind the name card) looks great, it makes it easier for thieves to steal them unnoticed. Would you consider laying out the packaging differently, with the C’n’C piece more prominently displayed, to hopefully help prevent theft?

In-store theft is something Mattel has very little control over. We actually did a lot of testing and fans greatly preferred the pieces packed below as to not have a “floating limb” near their figure for those who wanted to keep figures in package. While this is good feedback, we don’t have plans to reposition the C&C pieces at this time.

2.) Nicholai asks: Why the decision to go with a Batman Legacy sub-line when the Green Lantern sub-line did not pass two waves? Was GLC not meant to go on longer? (more…)

1.) MegaGearMax asks: A bunch of fans were really disappointed Battleground Teela’s controversial bio didn’t explain the most pressing questions on fan’s minds since her reveal at NYTF 2011 — namely, why was her hair now blonde or why is she wearing a new costume. Classicized 200X versions of vintage MOTU characters whose changes might not be so easily explained as a change of clothes might also fall under this topic. So I was wondering: why did the bio writers decided not to try to explain why characters have such different looks?

We absolutely have throught about these details. You’ll just need to keep reading the bios won’t you?

2.) Chris asks: I used the tracking for the Newgistics shipping and it makes no sense. It takes longer, and still ends up getting handed over to USPS. Why not send it USPS to begin with? (more…)

Ask Mattel > May 1 Edition

Damn, I love that art.

Anyway, it’s time for another round of Ask Mattel. (I refuse to acknowledge a corporate mascot by name, nor pretend he actually exists.) My thoughts are in the blue boxes/captions. –PG

1.) Poe asks: Are there any plans to do more Arkham City figures beyond Batman and Two-Face in the Batman: Legacy line?

Yes. We’ll have the next wave at SDCC to show off.

Awesome.

2.) Toyman2581 asks: What is up with those strange yellow lanterns that come with all the Sinestro Corps figures in DCUC and DC Retro action? In the comics, all the yellow lanterns look just like the green ones. (more…)

Ask Mattel > Answers for mid-April

1.) Zach asks: Over the past three years, the DCU figures have seen a 50-80% price increase, with little to no increase in quality or value. This is almost to the point of MOTUC prices, minus the shipping, and those figures arguably have better quality and more accessories. Going forward, will there be anything added to these figures, besides a little useless pin, to justify this massive increase?

At this point we are fighting to keep the figures at $14.99.  Highly articulated collector figures are very expensive to make and the cost of labor and raw goods continues to rise. We will do all we can to maintain the price point without sacrificing quality, but there are no plans to plus them up further at this point.

2.) Valo487 asks: I’m glad to see the Horde getting fleshed out a bit, but it seems like the rest of the Horde as well as the Snake Men are more unique sculpts. Can you give us a rough idea of when we’ll see the next Snake Man or Horde member? (more…)

Ask Mattel > Answers for April 1

1.)  I bought that He-Man with the furry cape. Great figure, but the bio says he lost to John Cena in Wrestlemania 22. But John Cena isn’t even an Evil Warrior! Are you going to correct this error?

No, John took the cape fair and square, but we hear Tri-Klops has been sent after him to collect a bounty.

2.) Battle Catman asks: What would happen to Charlie Sheen if he drank Giant Green Tiger Blood? (more…)
