Star Trek Toy Ad That Time Hasn’t Yet Forgotten

Here’s an ad that I meant to post on the “other” toy blog a while back, but then I forgot about it. After seeing a commercial for the new Star Trek flick I remembered how awesome it was and decided I had to share it again if you hadn’t seen it already:

Despite the questionable quality of the Star Trek figures from Playmates, that’s a damned fine toy commercial. It’s just like the old school commercials of old, you know the ones that actually make toys look like a lot of fun. In fact, it looks like it was made back when Playmates were making their old Star Trek line in the 1990s.

I’d flirted with getting the bridge set at some time (even though it’s completely ridiculous most of the pieces are sold separately), this ad does a great job of convincing me that the transporter set is worth a look as well. It’s amazing that they can actually teleport toys these days, I mean, I can’t come up with any other explanation for how that thing works.

  1. I love the "collect-a-bride" concept. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I may have to grab one or two of these just to see how they work out as 3.75-inch figures.

  2. Poe

    Haha–"collect-a-bride." That's an awesome typo. 🙂

  3. Dark Angel

…sure, when it's a TYPO it's amusing, but when someone is actually DOING it, the cops and doctors get all, "OMG UR PSYCHOTIC!!11!!!" and stuff…

    …or, um…so I hear.

  4. Damn. That'll learn me to type before I'm awake. But yeah, if I'm gonna make a typo, that's the one to make.

  5. Poe

And yet there are at least two films that spring to mind based around the concept…Bride of Re-Animator and Frankenhooker.

  6. Mumma Ghostal

How did I miss getting that for Father Ghostal? When I met him, he would set up his college room to look like the bridge, and one of his roommates had enough appropriate turtlenecks to dress the four of them up and pose for pictures. I believe the tricorder was actually an old tape recorder…and, yes, we still have the pictures…And Dad was Kirk.

  7. Wow this is for the new movie? My first thought of that Transporter set was "wow that's cool, I bet they go for a fortune on ebay these days".

also these are 3 3/4"? I'll definitely look into that Transporter set.

The teleporter works this way. Teleporter lights up, you put the figure in, lights turn off, you put teleporter somewhere else, lights go on, you take figure out.
