DCUC8 surfaces in Hong Kong, the Phillippines

In what has become a wave tradition, the first photos of DC Universe Classics wave 8 have appeared first on AFTimes via Captain Collector, then in eBay auctions from Hong Kong, and finally in photos from collectors in the Phillippines–all of which suggests they’ll start popping up at U.S. stores within two or three weeks. I stand by my assertion that my online preorder will arrive on or around May 20, however.

Here are the photos from the online auctions. Check out the wee little Atom next to Giganta’s head in the Gentleman Ghost package. For loose pics, see the photos from the Phillippines collector, arcdeluxe, on Fwoosh.

Sideshow Shows Off How Awesome They Are

Sideshow Collectibles recently posted a picture featuring several of their Stormtroopers, a Darth Vader, an Imperial Officer, and a couple of very unlucky Rebel Fleet Troopers. It’s flipping awesome sauce and makes me wish I was amazingly rich so I could set up something like it.

Sideshow, please more dios like this. If I can’t own them, I’d at least like to drool over some mighty fine pictures. Or maybe you can just send me and Poe your figures to make our own pictures to promote your stuff. What do you say? Huh? Huh?

Contest Winners

The contest winners have confirmed their addresses, so they can now be announced.

The winning  combination was Blue Beetle 73. “Clark” guessed Blue Beetle 75, while “T” guessed Blue Beetle 70. Thus, Clark was a single digit closer and won the Grand Prize, while “T” won the Runner-Up prize. Thanks everyone for playing, and fear not–there will be more contests to come.

Review > Blue Beetle (DC Universe Classics)

The winners of the 150th Review Contest Spectacular have been contacted, and I’ll announce them once they’ve confirmed with me. In the meantime, I present you with my 150th toy review: Blue Beetle!

Like Captain Atom, Blue Beetle was a Charlton Comics character. When Charlton’s characters were bought by DC Comics in the 1980s, DC incorporated the characters into their own universe.

As it turns out, the Blue Beetle in this review–alias Ted Kord–is actually the second Blue Beetle. The original, named Dan Garret, started out as a Fox Features Syndicate character in the late 1930s. When Charlton bought the rights to Fox’s characters in the early 1960s, they briefly used the Dan Garret version (renamed to Garrett) as a superhero empowered by a mystical scarab dug up in Egypt. Lego…uh, Female Parts

Lego mini-figs are great and all, but if they’re anything there are blocky. This is fine and good for most figures, but when it comes to female characters like Princess Leia in her signature metal bikini there’s… something lacking. Well in comes Brick Forge and their extra enhancement for female characters:

minifigboobs

Yeah I’d make some sort of joke here, but these things kind of speak for themselves. I mean, really you can’t say anything more about Lego boobs that the picture can’t convey.
