New OMFG “Blood Rage” Exclusives On Sale Monday

I know a lot of you are fans of October ToysOMFG figurines (as am I), so I figured you’d want a heads-up on the upcoming translucent red “Blood Rage” exclusive versions of waves one and two, which will go on sale this Monday at noon at Shelf Life. Single sets will be $10 with a two-set limit for each of Series 1 and 2.  Combined shipping available up to the four-set maximum. The Blood Rage editions are exclusive to ShelfLife but in Japan a limited number of sets will be available through Fig-Lab.

On an unrelated note, I’m going to be clearing through a lot of stuff this weekend, so for those of you who catch up on your PGPoA on Saturdays and Sundays, you’re in for a treat.

Welcome New Sponsor DASH, Plus: A Contest!

Please welcome PGPoA’s newest sponsor, Collector-ActionFigures.com, also known as DASH. Their website allows you to track your collection, communicate with other collectors, list your wants and offer your own items for sale or trade. They’re still growing (i.e., not every action figure is in the database yet, but they’re already quite comprehensive), and every new user can help add to its database of figures.

More information and contest details after the jump. (more…)

Toys R Us Pricing Officially Out Of Hand

I’ve noticed that the prices at the two TRUs near me – one just about twenty miles from the other – have quite different prices, at least for collector figures. For example, the Evil Dead II Henrietta figure is $18.99 at one TRU, and $15.99 at another. Three bucks is a pretty significant difference in terms of what I’m willing to pay for a toy.

Now, I was already aware of this practice – I’d seen it at Target many times. And supposedly TRU will price-match to the website, which is good news.

But still, there’s adding a few bucks to a figure in a wealthier area, and then there’s this. (more…)

Doc Thomas Reviews > Left 4 Dead Boomer by NECA (w/ Sculptor’s Commentary!)

Poe Ghostal here. We’re trying something new for this review – what I’m calling “Sculptor’s Commentary” (though I reserve the right to change it to, say, “Designer’s Commentary” depending on who’s doing the commenting). The Boomer was sculpted by Jason Frailey, who also sculpted the Evil Dead II Henrietta as well as the super-popular new Glyos-compatible Armorvor. Jason was kind enough to do an interview in which he discussed some aspects of sculpting the Boomer. You can find this commentary in quotes throughout the review. I’m working on more of these for the future, so if you’re a sculptor who’s sculpted toys I’ve reviewed, or a reader who’s in contact with such a sculptor and think they might be interested, please shoot me an email at poe@poeghostal.com. –PG

NECA have done me proud. Way back in 2010, when I wrote my two articles about how the Left 4 Dead action figures should be made, fate was listening in and ensured that the Valve licence would end up with those who could best bring my plastic fantasies to life. Soon we’ll be seeing a plethora of excellent action figures based on Valve’s sensational award-winning video games done by those amazing people over at NECA. The first release was the original Left 4 Dead Boomer, probably the most well-known of the L4D zombies and the perfect test case for NECA to show off their chops at converting these characters into action figures. How did they do, particularly in regard to my planned version in my article? Read on to find out! (more…)
