Mattycollector Panel News & Discussion Post (Updated w/ MOTUC)

Watch the Mattycollector panel live.

Yeah, I know I always use this pic, but I just love it so goddamned much. Sudden thought: would people be interested in a T-shirt with this image? Or maybe this one?

Anyway, the Mattycollector Fan Panel is due to start at 12pm Pt (3pm ET). I’m not sure I’ll quite be able to live-blog the event, but I’m sure Twitter will have live updates, so just keep an eye on my Toy Geeks Twitter List and you’ll get all the info as it happens. (more…)

Winning MOTUC Fan Figure Leaked?

The Masters of the Universe Classics Facebook page has posted pics of what appears to be a link on Mattycollector (now removed) of the winning fan’s Create-A-Character figure.

This could be a hoax by a fan or Mattycollector itself, like the fake lists – I don’t know. We’ll find out. Check it out after the jump (spoilers, obviously). I’m going to turn off comments until after the official reveal, so there are no spoilers on the sidebar. (more…)

SDCC Preview Night Post

It’s preview night at SDCC and the news is already starting to roll in!

UPDATE 11:49pm: Even more awesome Predator from NECA, including an unmuddied Dutch!

And – the game is officially over!

10pm: Our man inside, Rustin Parr, took a few great photos:

Here’s MOTUC Granamyr, due out later this year. Still forming my opinion on this – the sculpt is great, but I’m concerned he might be a bit too pre-posed in the sitting posture. Oh, and he’ll be $80.

There will also be a Great Unrest Weapons Pack which will include Keldor’s swords, Man-At-Arms big gun, and Draego-Man’s second sword, shield and whip (pic at ToyArk).

Rustin also sent in this pic from NECA:

Dutch from Predator! Fully articulated! Evidently we’ll have to wait for the non-muddy version, but whatever, I’m in for every figure from the original movie.

No, this is not a MOTUC Castle Grayskull – it’s a statue from Icon Heroes. I haven’t heard how large it is, but I don’t think it’s MOTUC-scaled.

In weirder but still awesome news, the toy company Super 7 somehow got the original molds to Kenner’s unproduced 1979 Alien 3 ¾” line and will be producing them. Amazing.

The Mystic Hammer Hits Today

UPDATE: Hammer is on sale now!

Fans who were disappointed that Spy Monkey Creations never made another run of Chalybeous – the Hammer of War can now rejoice – toymaker extraordinaire Joe Amaro has come to your rescue with his beautiful new piece, the Mystic Hammer.

You can see Pixel Dan’s review here (I’ve got a sample on the way, but I asked Joe to wait until I had finished my move). The Hammer goes on sale today at Joe’s website for $20 shipped U.S., $25 shipped internationally. I’m not sure what time it will go on sale and the first run is extremely limited, so be sure to check the website frequently today!

Joe has said this is just an initial run to test the waters. I suspect they’ll sell out pretty damned fast.

Geoff Johns-penned He-Man Comic Debuts Online

You know you’ve lost a bit of interest in your former favorite toy franchise when a comic written by Geoff Johns is released and you don’t even know about it until you happened to wander over to the forums. (more…)

Tamashii Nations Unveils S.H.Figuarts Perfect Cell

What I know about Dragon Ball could be laser-etched on a microchip, but fans seem excited about Tamashii’s latest reveal of the character Perfect Cell for their S.H.Figuarts line, the anime-oriented sibling to S.H.MonsterArts. (more…)

Happy…Horde Prime? Snake Man-At-Arms? Metron? Griffin–? …Day!

Link to all-in-one sale page

Here’s the new stuff:

  •  Atrocitus
  • Horde Prime
  • Snake Man-At-Arms
  • Griffin
  • Metron (Club Infinite Earths exclusive)

…and then a bunch of reissues. Why do they even put Metron on the all-in-one sale page? Seems like they’re just taunting the non-subscribers.

Anyway, this may be the least excited I’ve been for a MOTUC month, particularly one with three new figures. Horde Prime has a neat design, but a.) I have no nostalgia for or much interest in the character, and b.) whenever I did think of Horde Prime, I thought of him as a Godzilla-sized dude, not human-sized.

And just a reminder – the PGPoA contest for the Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man & Lizard set ends at 12pm ET today!

Warner Bros. Admits 1960s Batman Show Existed

Received a press release from Warner Bros. Consumer Products unveiling a licensing program for the 1960s Batman TV series. Among the highlights:

“The Batman Classic TV Series celebrates an incarnation of Batman that for many fans was their first introduction to ‘The Caped Crusader’ and his many friends and foes,”said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.  “This new licensing program captures the playful and stylish spirit of the iconic Batman while bringing a fresh look that will appeal to the Batman enthusiasts and nostalgic fan base, as well as to a new generation of fans.”

As part of the new licensing and merchandising program, licensees will have the chance to bring to life some of the most recognizable elements of Batman, including the “Dynamic Duo” of Batman and Robin and an arsenal of archenemies such as The Penguin, The Joker and The Riddler.  Batman’s famous high-tech gadgetry will be featured in the program such as the Bat-phone, the Bat-zooka and the Bat-signal, along with other ultramodern tools – and don’t forget the famous Batmobile.

WBCP now has the rights to license the likenesses of the actors from Batman as part of the Batman Classic TV Series licensing program.  Throughout the duration of the 120-episode run of Batman, the venerable actors of the series include Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Cesar Romero as The Joker, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, Vincent Price as Egghead and Eartha Kitt as Catwoman, among many others.

First off, it’s great that WB/DC is finally willing not just to acknowledge but to celebrate the 1960s Batman TV series, as it arguably raised the Dark Knight’s pop culture profile permanently. Hating on it because it made Batman into high camp is so late ’80s (call it GRITT NOT CAMPY).

Second and far more importantly, could an Adam West Batman action figure – from Mattel or DC Collectibles – finally become a reality? I bet we get a statue, at least, but it would be great to see a Batman 6″ figure with West’s finely-toned physique. Also, four words: Four Horsemen-sculpted Egghead.

Dragon Blaster Skeletor Revealed

I’m not even gonna bother with the spoiler stuff.

I’m sad to say I’m disappointed. I was expecting something a bit more realistic (and an articulated jaw, which I would have taken over a ball-jointed neck). It’s not that different from the vintage version.

Look, it’s one thing to not go all hog-wild with “anime hyper detail,” but couldn’t we make it at least look a bit less like Goal Eater? Maybe it’ll look better when we get more photos of it. It’s hard to tell how detailed the body is. But I’m not a fan of that head.

I don’t know, maybe I’m being hypocritical what with my support of the style of this line, but I feel like they could have made it a bit more detailed and gotten away with it. (more…)

S.H.MonsterArts King Ghidorah Destroys Poe’s Objectivity

I need to be honest with you, dear readers – I’m not sure I’m capable of being objective about the S.H.MonsterArts toy line. “Super-articulated Godzilla action figures” is the sort of thing I found at toy stores in my dreams, but the very idea of them existing in the real world seemed like pure fantasy. And yet, here they are. (True, I wish we could get some monsters from the 1960s and ’70s in addition to the current 1990s lineup, but to say I will take what I can get is an understatement.) (more…)
