ToyFare: In Memoriam (Updated)

I wasn’t quite sure how to memorialize the end of ToyFare. I can’t say it was a surprise; I’ve been hearing rumors of Wizard’s financial troubles for years now, and given the increasing prominence of the Internet as a source for you news, it was less a matter of if and more a matter of when. When I say that, I don’t want to diminish the hard work of the people who made the magazine, especially Justin Aclin, who poured his heart and the contents of a few other organs into every issue (I was thinking his spleen, pervs. Or maybe his liver). Bandai Thundercats revealed

Some sneaky Thundercats fans snapped some pics of Bandai’s new 3¾” line at the London Toy Fair. Follow the link for the pics–I’m not going to post them here, mostly because I don’t see any reason to get Bandai miffed at me.

Of particular interest to Poesters, I imagine, is the promo pic of a 20cm (8″) articulated Lion-O from what is referred to as a “Collector Figure,” and appears to be based on the original cartoon and not the new one.

Vikor to return this Monday, 12pm ET

Vikor, who already appears to be a sleeper hit for Masters of the Universe Classics, will go back on sale this Monday at 12pm Eastern Time.  The shipments were evidently split, as happened to Mer-Man a couple years ago.

AFI has MOTU, DC, Ghostbusters previews

Keep an eye on ActionFigureInsider, because it looks like they’re going to have some pretty nice previews up soon.

Speaking of Bow, if you had your druthers, what would you have made his “real name” instead of Kyle Reccula? The best suggestion I saw on He-Man.org was “Bowen Fletcher,” although personally I think I’d have just named him “Flynn.”

Keldor Swords are coming

Never let it be said that constant campaigning doesn’t bear fruit:

But hey, to leave on a good note, we did just have our meeting with management to go over the 2012 line. We also discussed the 200X head design and weapon design direction. While we are still not going to explore 200X redesigned character heads in the online line, I did get some sway on the weapons and we are going to now find a way to do the “Keldor Swords” in Classic style. (despite what people say I am in there fighting the good fight!).

This isn’t indicitive of “rules changing”, I just made the case that enough fans want these and it doesn’t indicate a changed character design. So hey, chalk one up for a fan demand victory!

I was going to save this announcement for NYTF, but hey, you guy wanted a He-Man.org news break, there you go!

Happy 2011!

It’s been an interesting year here at PGPoA. On the one hand, my new, busier job has made it harder to keep up with this site. On the other hand, in a lot of ways the site took off this year, with a major spike in daily traffic, guest appearances on podcasts, and brand-new exclusive toys, not to mention adding Bastards of the Universe to the rotation.
