Happy Wind Raider Day!

[Here’s the link to the all-in-one page.]

With Demo-Man delayed, I think we can all agree the real reason everyone’s hitting Mattycollector today will be for the Wind Raider. I’ll be interested to see how quickly it sells out. Personally I don’t find the Wind Raider to be all that interesting a vehicle–I’d much rather have gotten the Battle Ram or even the Attack Trak first–but it does look lovely, and the stand is a nice touch.

So just to clarify, everything will ship right away except Demo-Man. If you order Demo-Man, anything bundled with him will have to wait until he arrives at the warehouse in early January. If you want your stuff to ship right away, don’t order Demo-Man. On the other hand, this is your only chance (as far as I know) to actually order him–he won’t go on sale in January when he arrives. So yes, this is kind of a pre-order, amusingly enough.

Then there’s the controversial Battleground Evil-Lyn repaint and the Legion of Super-Heroes 12-pack is on sale again, as is the brand-new Vigo from Ghostbusters II.

So, what are you getting?

Geeks for Tots – Practicing What You Preach

Everyone can talk a big game about charity, post a few banner ads and so forth, but the real test of one’s beneficence is to get off one’s lazy ass (and by “one” I mean me) and buy and drop off a toy for Toys for Tots. Given that most Toys R Us stores in the country serves as drop-off locations, it’s easy. It’s just a matter of remembering to do it when you’re already at TRU checking to see if the latest wave of NECA Predators has shown up yet.

It took me a few minutes to decide what toy to donate. Part of me wanted to pick something I knew kids today like, like Gogo’s Crazy Bones or Air Hogs. Of course, another part of me wanted to proselytize my own love of action figures with a DC vs. MOTUC set or a ThunderCats figure.

Then I spotted the perfect item: Godzilla. All kids love dinosaurs, and Godzilla is one of my nearest and dearest childhood loves.

So now that I’ve gotten off my butt and donated, it’s your turn. The good news is, by donating and sending proof (either a pic of yourself donating–you can crop or blur the face to preserve your anonymity–or an email receipt from an online cash donation, etc.) you’re eligible to win all sorts of awesome prizes from Geeks for Tots. Click that link to find out more on the contest rules.

G4T is the brainchild of Poe Power Pal Paul of The Robot’s Pajamas. And be sure to check out his online toy store if you’re looking for holiday gifts for the toy collector in your life (even if that’s just you).

Hi-Res ThunderCats Pics

Bandai sent along the full hi-res pics of the new Thundercats figures, which I now share with you, free of watermarks. Enjoy them in good health.

Happy Snout Spout Day!

I’m not sure I would ever have thought we’d get to today, when Snout Spout, Eternia’s answer to Joseph Merrick, is added to everyone’s Masters of the Universe collections.

Of course, this is also the first time since…man, I don’t even remember, maybe the Eternian Palace Guards?–that I have to go onto Mattycollector and order something, namely, Bubble Power She-Ra. If I don’t, I apparently won’t own a She-Ra who can ride Swift Wind. The question is, did Mattel make as many BP She-Ras as they made Swift Winds? Color me skeptical. I just hope I survive the experience.

For those of you without subscriptions, Swift Wind, the tough-talking, incredibly girly-looking unicorn/pegasus hybrid, is also on sale, along with all the DC Universe Classics Wave 18 figures; the JLU 7-Pack of Gypsy, Crimson Avenger, Johnny Thunder, Thunderbolt w/stand, Dr. Mid-Nite, Speedy, The Creeper; and all of the DC Universe Retro Action figures at the not-so-low price of $20 each. I suspect the Retro Action figures will show up in a sale at a substantially lower price before Christmas, so you might want to wait on that.

There’s also a big JLU deal going on for the remaining stock over the next few days–you can read all the details here.

Poe’s NYCC Wrap-Up

Arkham City Titan Joker

You can see all my photos from NYCC here.

This was my first trip to New York Comic Con. After not having visited New York in years, I was there twice in about six months. The NYCC was held in the Javits Center, just like Toy Fair.

I was only at NYCC for about a day and a half, but I made sure to visit all the major toy booths. Hasbro, Mattel, Bandai, and Square Enix all had a significant presence. I also visited the Four Horsemen and, of course, attended the Mattycollector panel on Saturday. (more…)

Happy Icarius Day!

Link to the all-in-one sale page.

My NYCC write-up is coming soon (probably tomorrow), but in the meantime, we can celebrate/discuss the arrival of Icarius. As discussed at the Mattel NYCC panel on Saturday, the name “Icarius” was used for the vintage figure in Europe because the name “Flipshot” didn’t translate well. When it came time to name the Classics figure, the team chose Icarius because it was, well, cooler-sounding than “Flipshot.”

I have to say I think he’s a great-looking action figure, and I can’t wait to get mine.

Also available in today’s sale is the massive Legion of Super Heroes 12-pack for $180. I’m not a Legion fan and I can’t afford that thing anyway, but it looks awesome.

This is a big sale; there’s also the prop replica Ghost Trap and Battle Cat is back, along with Mer-Man, one of the finest MOTUC figures. Finally there’s Ray Stantz w/ Slime Blower and a number of DCUC figures available. I’ve got Icarius coming by subscription, so the only thing I might pick up is Ray.
