Paul’s Peg > Toy Hunt: Two Ladies and a Hawk

What? Toy Hunt on Poe Ghostal’s blog? How is that possible!? Well, after the bastards killed my blog I took all my awesome with me, so here’s the first Toy Hunt on Poe Ghostal. If you’re not familar with Toy Hunt, it’s basically me talking about what toys I bought. Why should you care? I don’t know, you just should. So let’s kick this off:

ToyHunt

After moving to a new city I hadn’t stopped at any Wal-Marts yet. Actually that’s a lie, I stopped at one when I was looking for apartments and was really unimpressed. Today though, I stopped at a new one that I found and I scored big (at least for me). Most Wal-Marts around me tend to suck. Hell, I stopped going to one because they don’t even carry G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra or any DC figures. So imagine my surprise when I realized that this one had the potential to be a magic Wal-Mart.

General Hawk: This is the first General Hawk I’ve managed to find (though over the weekend I found like a million). He was in my top figures to get list, because I really needed a Dennis Quaid toy. How else am I going to recreate Enemy Mine? Overall General Hawk is a decent likeness and I’m happy with him. The only problem I have with the figure is that his torso is super loose. I hate loose figures.

Agent Helix: This is the first time I’ve run across Helix in the wild and I like most other Joe collectors had been driven crazy to get one. I think she’s got that perfect hot girl that’s a nerd look. Like she’ll impress your friends when you introduce her as your girlfriend, but she’s not afraid to play D&D with you. Yes, I have thought about this and yes it is pathetic.

Supergirl: I’m insane for Supergirl, so I had to get this despite the fact I hate that stupid headband look. This Supergirl comes from the same disappointing segment of the DC Infinite Heroes line and really doesn’t show off any of the improvements that they’ve been trying to make. The plus is that she’s a female character and the female figures tend to come off looking better than their male counterparts. Still, mine suffers from a twisted leg that I’m hoping can be fixed since the plastic is so damned soft. Don’t get me wrong, I like her, but it’s almost impossible to put one of these figures next to a G.I. Joe or Star Wars figure and be at least a little saddened by the drop in quality.

And if you’re wondering what they are looking for in the above picture, if you guessed Hawk’s dignity you guessed right.

    I enjoy a good hunt, admittedly I haven't been on one on my own in a while. I've done some reconnaissance in passing, but I don't think I've made a brick & mortar purchase since June.

    I think when/if I ever move, I'll have to make it a priority to make sure I have a decent amount of Wal-Marts/Targets/LCS within a driving radius! 😉

    Also, I guess this is as good of a place to mention it. I had a dream last night that I was on a Toy Hunt with Ed and Poe. I don't remember all of the details, but I know we were going to a Wal-Mart, and I had gone to the Transformers section, and found Superion BAF (but I don't think it was Superion) and Ed mocked Target Smitty, saying "Buy this, its going for a hundred dollars on eBay". For whatever reason I kept looking for 2002 MOTU figures, but of course couldn't find any.

  2. General Hawk and Helix are awesome. My Hawk suffers from no loose torso.

    I can't bring myself to buy anymore DC Infinite Heroes. Those figures are straight garbage.

  3. Helix and Hawk are two of my favorites from the RoC line. Hasbro just did really well on Helix. She's one of the best female figures they've ever made.

    Are they ever going to make Infinite Heroes not suck?

    Good to see you bring the Awesomeness to POA!

    @PrfktTear

    What I want to know is….was there any DCUC at this dream Walmart of yours? =)

  6. PrfktTear

    @Ed:

    Was there ever!!! They had wall to wall shelves FILLED with Waves 8, 9, and 10, several of those giant black metal bins full of Wave 5 on Clearance, and rows of 5-packs stacked to the ceiling. Then there were the Toy Department Managers who were practically begging to go look out back and let me have the pick of any case, and even promised to get Mattel on the phone if I couldn't find what I wanted. Oh, who am I kidding… no dream could be that good! 😉

    oh i've been to that wal-mart , a cashier that looked like amber heard struck up a conversation about how awesome the wave 10 joker is going to look next to harley…great wal-mart

    my wal-mart is the most retched hive of scum and villainy you will ever see , complete with 3 pegs of captain colds , ocean warrior aquamen & mr.miracles…crying kids , toxic avenger rejects & 17 year old knocked up cashiers at all 983 registers….i did manage to find a 5 pack there

  8. That waist on Super Girl is hilarious. Body images anyone?

    I quite like Helix. She's a fun addition to the Joe team and I reviewed her a while back.

    I've seen lots of Helix (finally picked one up this weekend, what with the TRU sale) and General Hawk — it's the Paris Pursuit Baroness that I've been having a hard time finding. I saw one during a recent trip to MO, but wasn't really interested in plunking down the $9 K-Mart wanted for it.

    And yeah, the hot/cold water trick or the hairdryer variant should fix Supergirl up just fine.

    @Newton

    What waist? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  11. PrfktTear

    @Newton Gimmick: C’mon, isn’t that how we all want our superheroines? Busty and super slim?

  12. De

    @Wes: I saw a lone Paris Pursuit Baroness at the Fair Lakes TRU last night. I can swing by tonight and snag her (provided the figure is still there).

    I wish General Hawk and Helix were plentiful around here. I want both of those (and Scarlett – I think the desert version) in the worst kind of way.

  13. I finally found a Helix over the weekend. She is definitely my favorite figure in the movie line, so far at least.

    So, why are all the figures in the photo looking to their left? Is the My Little Pony coming to reclaim her castle backdrop?
