  1. Dead Man Walking

Well, I stood by my no subscription this year, and since I'll no longer be a completest with this line, it's time to start selling and trading half of my MOTUC collection, including the subscription figures. If any of you have an SDCC Shockwave HISS Tank, Starscream Skystriker, Jinx, or Zarana to trade, let me know.

  2. Well, he admitted that we supported the lines. Now he can't say that we didn't. I for one am glad that I get my cool toys for another year.

  3. The Rook

Full lineup in 2013 and more surprises!!! I'm pumped!!!

  4. So after all the panicking and pleading and everything… MOTUC didn't get enough subscriptiosn for the year, and it's ending now?

    • Barbecue17

Did you read the article? Or even the title?

      • I choose to live in my own reality, thank you very much!

In my world, candy falls from the sky.

  5. Looks like my comics saved the line! You're welcome, Mattel.

  6. The boy who cied wolf comes to mind. The preasure is really on Scott and Mattel now.

  7. Harrig

    The hat suits him.

  8. jumper11

I'm so glad they were able to get Gandhi to plead their case… I'm willing to bet between he and John Lennon they pulled 500 subs. It would have resulted in more bloodshed and starvation across the globe if the subs didn't meet the projected minimum.

    • Harrig

That's Why Kofi Annan really stopped being envoy to Syria. He was preparing for the backlash from the Org… he may still be needed…

  9. Harrig

You only like Geldor because he is related to 339/1.

  10. Valo487

I’m very happy MOTUC made it. I hope Mattel has learned something from this, and adjusts their practices accordingly going forward. The amount of nonsense that took place in 2012 is unacceptable and should never occur again, and I’m someone who was always going to reup this year. I stayed for the toys I love, not because I had any faith in Matty. I hope they don’t forget that we all came back because we love the line, not because we’re satisfied with the way it is run.

    • I really hope that they start doing a better job now. I ALSO hope that they adjust the roadmap to get all figures out by the end of 2014, because even if mattel started to give away free money, this line ain't gonna last another year.

"Typical Mattel. They folded my money wrong in a blatant conspiracy of lies."

    • stack32

Why would they change anything? They got what they wanted running the business the same way they always have. Another company might learn from this, but Mattel has shown little evidence to suggest they will.

  11. Aaron

Good news. I have been waiting to hear this all morning.

  12. Mario

I for one am a happy camper. 😀

  13. The_Fun_has_been_Doubled

I'm not sure if it was the party hat, but Scott's hairline seems to be receding more with each video… In any case, hooray for MOTUC…

    • Its kind of like how the stress of the Presidency makes the sitting President go gray! Compare early pics of Clinton or George W. to later pics… even Obama is showing signs!

  14. Composite Ghost

First off, I want to thank everyone who subscribed. Now I will be able to get Ram Man and a couple other cool figures, and that's pretty awesome.

But now that the subscription is a go, we pretty much forfeit our right to complain about any of the recurring problems this line has had. So if Digital River screws up your order again, don't be surprised. If your favorite POP character's prototype isn't as sexy as you imagined, too bad. If three of the subscription figures are revealed to be members of Orko's family, oh well. If Toy Guru makes a promise and then doesn't follow through, it wouldn't be the first time. And if all the figures are painted flesh tones over black plastic, you were warned.

By giving Mattel your money you are rewarding their past bad behavior and are giving them no incentive to improve the way they operate. Pretty cool, huh?

    • Kevin

So you'd rather they hadn't subscribed and you did not get Ram Man?

Do you stop going to the movies because of one bad movie?

Do you buy any other toy line of which none are perfect and stop buying it after one bad figure?

      • stack32

Not even Mattel's harshest critics are suggesting they dropped MOTUC, or DCIE, because of one bad figure. The various issues that caused people to stay away have been covered pretty thoroughly the past two weeks. Pretending otherwise is silly.

    • Jonathan

… and the haters keep on hating.

no one forfeit anything. The people that are going to complain are always going to complain regardless.

I gave my money to mattel because I love these figures and want more of them. The hiccups of this line have NEVER out-weighed my love for MOTU or the figures that Mattel has produced.

So yeah, it's pretty damn cool…. sans the sarcasm

    • Tribsaint

      huzzah :S

  15. Potato

Congratz Matty. You scared a bunch of people into subscribing…some with multiple subscritpions, since they were afraid the line wouldn't continue if they didn't get enough support. Bravo.

Why doesn't MOTU have a thermometer? I bet its because they meet the quota on day 1. If they meet the quota, people wouldn't be putting in multiple subscriptions out of fear of the line getting cancelled.

    • are you joking? the thermometer that dcuc had was a jpeg. A JPEG. it didnt auto update with each sub bought, it had to be manually changed. they could have (and if a game was indeed played, then they most likely did) play games with that too.

      • Jonathan

Are you Mel Gibson? Is this Conspiracy Theory? are you Julia Roberts in Conspiracy Theory? Do you still have a left over Y2K shelter built in your basement?

  16. "Fear is my Ally"

Wise words, Darth Maul… wise words indeed…

  17. Enigma_2099

Now we wait and see if all the promises they made will amount to anything THIS TIME…

  18. toyman

I just read this while waiting in line for Space Mountain at Disney World. Best. Day. EVER!

  19. There was no way to tell if scott was telling the truth, and there still isnt. all the conspiracy theorists will claim the 135% as evidence, and refuse to believe how many subs were bought last night. if the sub hit 100% they would have boasted the same claim saying they were smart and people got duped. Whatever, we got another year of motuc, i only bought my 1 usual sub, i love concept figures, but not enough to pay for (2) $75 3 packs, i for one DO beleive scott was honest and we pulled thru in the clinch with alot of last minute procrastinators and people pushing the omfng button tho

  20. Dark Angel

    Approximately 43%.

    In a single day.

    Isn't that something…?

  21. jumper11

i don't think there was lying by mattel, but there was a ton of asshattery. Given the way it's been hyped with everyone and their mother issuing pleas, and the doomsaying from the company, I would have expected sales of 101%. Something close, but enough to make it.
For the fans, I feel bad. I'm glad the line is continuing, but I don't like the way it is continuing or how it's run. The lamest thing of all has to have been the pleas from the damn toy company. The makers of barbie ain't hurting for money.

  22. doctorkent

Glad to see it went through. Maybe now I can stop hearing people who don't even collect the line complain about it.

  23. I get the cynicism some people seem to have but I don't share it at all.

I think a lot of people were just putting it off for as long as possible. Though no doubt people buying multiple subs helped a lot.

At 135% I don't know if this could be called a "mandate" because of all the "save teh lein" videos, blogs, and whatnot — that said, if someone loves MOTUC enough (and has the capital to back it up) to buy multiple subs, then thats what they chose to do.

    • Tribsaint

Mandate is a great term because of the political conatation. I think the line clearly has a mandate and I would bet that just like a bunch of campaign promises, fans are not going to see the "new day" promised.

      Proof is in the video.

As soon as the numbers were above and byond the stream lined 2 year plan seems to be out (at least not mentioned)

Then expense seemed to be a major concern, but now big surprises (meaning more money) are coming.

Ultimately fans choose the "abuse" and how much they'll take before they set the bed on fire.

I'm glad fans are getting Ram man, it's how they getting him that bugs people.

I guess we will see, it would be great if the nay sayers are wrong and matty keeps all promises.

  24. clark

I couldn't afford a sub, but am very glad that it went through. I can now get my Jitsu and Fighting Foe Men!

  25. Robzy

Wow.. I'm sooooo shocked!! It's so amazing how the whole line was saved at the very last minute of the very last day… almost as if it were… never in danger at all??!!!

    o.0

  26. Jesús Santillán

And in the end ,the MOTUC community was divided between subscribers and no subscribers. Enjoy it!:@

  27. misterbigbo

As a casual fan of MOTUC I am glad to see it continue. As a cherry picker I am glad I preordered Ram Man on BBTS. I am now awaiting the next scandal to hit the line.

Was there any word on the Watchmen sub? I never heard a peep about it. . .

    • It was always guaranteed. My theory is it was subsidized by DC as part of their Before Watchmen promotion.

  28. Dark Angel

Well, today is the 8th, so maybe we will find out who won the fan vote that was supposed to stay open through today!

…wait, what's that? Nietlich already announced the winner? Over 24 hours before the voting was scheduled to end?

    Oh.

Well, I'm SURE it wasn't because the vote was fixed or anything like that. He just…used his Spector powers to travel into the future to find out the results. Just as he used them to travel into the past and trademark the name "Geldor" weeks before SDCC.

    *cough*.

    • He said it was a typo and it always should have said the 6th. Take that as you will.

      I wanted Geldor anyway. 😛

      • Dark Angel

        Well, that clears up…nothing, actually.

I'm not accusing him of anything. We have all been in a situation where surrounding events could make our words or actions suspect. Of course this happens to most of us once or twice in a lifetime…it happens to Nietlich once or twice (or three times) a week. Where there's smoke…

    • jumper11

Can he use his Spector powers to cast my vote? Or remove Spades McPurplepool from the Heman universe?

    • AmericanHyena

From what I understand no one else really stood a shot anyway. Every major reseller said they were casting all their votes for Geldor. Combine that with what we can assume was at least a fairly even breakdown amongst the choices and Geldor is a shoe-in.

    • AmericanHyena

Of course now I just read he only won by 27 votes so shows what the Hell I know.

  29. Am I the only one who understood it to be 135% of the Minimum number of Subs required?
