Bluefin Tamashii Nations USA updated their Facebook page with more pics of Little Godzilla from the Space Godzilla effects pack.
The crystals are pretty lame, but the figure is fairly large and articulated. It’s also ridiculously cute, but I’ll console myself and rationalize my purchase by thinking that my future child will like it. The crystals are rather lame, though.

I don't hate the design, and I'm all for a bit of silly in my Godzilla.. but… in the first movie with this baby Godzilla, it totally looked like Godzilla, but smaller and kinda cute. Then it grows up in size but changes into extra baby looking baby godzilla. WTF Toho?

According to David Kalat's great book on the Godzilla movies, apparently Kawakita the SFX guy wanted Lil Godzilla to be cuter and less dinosaur-like than the previous version. He doesn't say exactly why, though. Could be just an attempt to appeal to women and children more, something Toho was really pushing in the 1990s.

Plus it was a great throwback to a previous era. Plus Space Godzilla is a really boring movie anyway and he adds a little color to the whole thing. Godzilla movies were getting a bit deep at that point, so it was a nice tie back to the olden Showa days… And by the next film he was back to being a mini-Godzilla, so it's no harm, no foul IMO.
Plus his design is what Minya's should have been.

So cute!

Is it wrong that whenever I look at the 2nd picture of Lil'zilla (the sitting one) that all I can think of is "NOT THE MOMMA!"?
