Joes For Tots > Super Awesome Magical News

JoesforTots2009

I’m sure you’re getting tired of my pleas for you to give to Toys For Tots. Well tough, because today I have a super awesome announcement that will have you pooping your pants with excitement if you live in Southern California (and even if you don’t, it’s still pretty neat). Loyal Poe Ghostal reader AmericanHyena is a magician who has offered up free tickets to the Magic Castle to anyone who enters Joes for Tots who live in the Southern California area. What is the Magic Castle? Why, it’s a super cool restaurant/bar in Hollywood, California that just happens to be the private clubhouse for the International Academy of Magical Arts. The only way to get in is to be invited by a member! I wish I lived in California still, I’d be all over this.

If you’ve already entered and you live in Southern California, just send me an email at winbigprizeswinbigmoney@gmail.com.

MOTUC Evil-lyn conjures a storm–of controversy

UPDATE: I’ve bought a copy of ToyFare #150 and seen the pic, and my post below stands as-is, with one addition: the staff & head sculpt look great.

Also, in a Facebook comment, Mattel writes: “There are actually a few additional accessories that come with Evil Lyn, but we’re not ready to reveal them yet.”

The first photos of MOTUC Evil-lyn appear in this week’s ToyFare #150. Obviously I’m not going to post the pics here, and I encourage you to pick up the issue yourself if you’re interested (there’s also a reveal of two new DCUC two-packs, including a pouch-belt, black-bat-symbol Batman and a green-and-red Tim Drake).

[First, a caveat: I haven’t even seen the photos of Evil-lyn myself yet, and in terms of accessories I don’t know how complete ToyFare‘s information is.]

First off, the details: she’s yellow-skinned and her armor is colored like her original toy, not the purple of the 200X version. She comes with a full-length staff and a knife (presumably her 200X knife). However, there’s already a furor erupting over at He-Man.org over the fact the figure is apparently a straight repaint of Teela. (more…)

Desperately Seeking Santa

I generally try not to take advantage of this blog for my own ends, but occasionally I come across something I want but just can’t find–not even on eBay. Such a one is this talking Santa Claus toy.

It was made in 1994 by the Kurt Adler company and has an electronic talking feature. It was probably sold in drug stores and so forth. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever found to a “realistic” six-inch-ish scale Santa Claus.

If anyone has one of these or sees one at a flea market or whatever and would be willing to sell or trade it, you’d make a Christmas-loving toy blogger very, very happy. Honestly I don’t have much hope…it’d be a Christmas miracle!

Show and Tell > Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves

While I was down in Florida last month, I visited a local flea market that I’d last been to a decade earlier. It’s not a very big flea market, but in those sort of places you can always find at least one stall with a bunch of toys. To my not-so-surprise, I think half the toys I saw in 1998 were still there.
