Masters of the Hipsterverse

A co-worker linked me to this gallery, which features MOTU characters reimagined in hipster fashions.

They look like regular people with MOTU-character heads to me (well, except for Trap-Jaw), but I’ll let you decide for yourself. But where’s the hipsterized Orko?

Odds ‘n Ends

Odds N Ends

Not a whole lot of toy-related news out there, so it’s Odds ‘n Ends for y’all.

  • Anyone (besides Paul, obviously) pick up Halo: ODST? I’m burned out on first-person shooters so I don’t plan to, but feel free to discuss the game below. How does it compare to the other three? Rate them in order of best to worst, please, and why.
  • Don’t forget about the Make Your MasterPOEce contest. We have so few entries right now, you’ve got a decent chance of winning just by submitting!
  • In case you missed it, Entertainment Earth now has the Bioshock Big Daddy for preorder. It’s $20, which will probably translate to $25 or more at specialty shops.
  • I’ve been meaning to mention, if you ever want to submit news or ideas for post topics, feel free to email them to me at poe AT poeghostal.com.
  • I know some people aren’t feeling it, but I find myself rather excited by the prospect of getting Zodak. Maybe it’s just the idea of getting a non-vintage character, or maybe it’s that he has a more cosmic, sf-inspired style than we’ve seen so far.
  • Speaking of MOTUC, PixelDan has a good early video review of Teela. Observations: She’s tall. Looks great though, like all tall women (hi honey!).

Poe’s Note: Futuristic red armor? Check. Large tube injecting God knows what into brain? Check. Rockin’ 19th-century-style muttonchops? Check and mate.

Sony now has the Power

“The Power” is sure being passed around a lot these days. First Warner Bros. had it, then got rid of it, and now Sony has it, according to Variety.

The fact that this news comes so quickly on the heels of the announcement of WB’s backing-out may actually mean this movie has a chance of being made sometime in the near future.

Sony and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will now start developing the project from scratch for Columbia Pictures, sources close to the negotiations said.

Shingle recently produced Columbia’s remake of “The Taking of Pelham 123,” “Knowing” at Summit, and previously produced the Will Smith dramas “Seven Pounds” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

That’s not exactly a resume that screams “epic sword-and-sorcery flick” to me, but I suppose neither did Peter Jackson’s, with its Meet the Feebles and Heavenly Creatures, when he pitched Lord of the Rings to New Line.

As for the script: the Justin Marks screenplay has potential, so one would hope Sony would go back to it. Unfortunately…

John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) had previously been attached to direct, with Justin Marks and Evan Daugherty having penned versions of the script. Rights to those scripts now belong to WB, meaning a new writer will likely be hired.

Well, shit.

Paul’s Peg > Halo RC Vehicles

I’m a huge Halo fan, so I picked up my pre-order copy of Halo: ODST yesterday. I’ve played through it enough and have been satisfied to the point that I’m interested in Halo once again. Because of this, I’ve been looking for Halo related news items I may have missed over the last few months and these Halo RC vehicles are something I certainly overlooked and are worth noting:

The Hornet is certainly cool, but the real winner has got to be the Warthog. I’ve seen fan made Warthogs over the years that were a lot more detailed, this one might do nicely in a pinch. This is especially true if you’re too lazy to make one of your own (that’s me).

And please don’t tell me I’m the only Halo fan on PoeGhostal.com. There’s got to be at least a few of you out there.

The DCUC9 fiasco is making everyone a little crazy

CornerStoreComics (who have had plenty of their own issues recently) posted this odd little piece about the DCUC9 disaster. It’s unclear to me if this “insider” is actually an insider (and if so, inside where? Mattel? CSC?) or just CSC goofing around (since the “insider” is apparently the Guardian). If it’s the latter, then the “disclaimer” is pretty disingenuous.

Text of the CSC piece after the jump.

Review > Webstor (Masters of the Universe Classics)

webstor_80sSome people in Eternia don’t seem to trust their own abilities. Stratos has wings, but wears a jetpack anyway. Webstor, ostensibly a spider-man, carries a grappling hook, a backpack pulley system and fifteen feet of uncoiled rope.

As I’ve said elsewhere, I never owned Webstor as a kid– in fact, I don’t think I even knew anyone who did. So it’s fair to say I don’t really have any attachment to the character, which also means this is one of the first MOTUC figures I’m not reviewing through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia.
